Welcome to WAVE Online

ROUND-UP - WRAP UP

Mother nature provided us with a beautiful day for our annual fund-raiser and we were rewarded with great attendance and wonderful public support. Our annual event raised well over $5,500 which is used to support our day program, performing chorus and monthly social activities for developmentally disabled persons in our community. Folks enjoyed a great barbecue dinner prepared by our chef extraordinaire, Chuck Husbands. Everyone enjoyed the sounds of local artists who donated their time and talents for our benefit, those artists include; the WAVE chorus, Pyramid Studios Rock Ensemble, Charles Atkins, Del Duggs Brett Wellman, the Nods, Mimi Hearn & the Hearndogs and Lead Crystal. The silent and live auctions had wonderful participation and was hosted by Bill Schack, a WAVE Board member. Everyone was impressed with Bill's skills as an auctioneer!! Many thanks to all the local businesses who donated items for the auction. We really appreciate your support!!

WAVE EXPANDS DAY PROGRAM

Wave Day Program

In January, WAVE expanded the day program for developmentally disabled teens and adults from 1 to 3 days per week.  The expansion was made possible by grant from the good folks at Faith Presbyterian Church.  The program is held at the First Presbyterian church which is kind enough to provide space for our day program as well as space for some of our social events.  We very much appreciate the generosity of both churches.  Without their support and commitment, WAVE would be unable to offer the service to developmentally disabled citizens in our community.

Wave Day Program

WAVE Opens Day Program at First Presbyterian Church

WAVEWAVE added a day program to its menu of services beginning July 9, 2009.  The program is offered at the First Presbyterian Church on Adams St. in downtown Tallahassee.  We appreciate the kindness and generosity of Rev. Copeland and his fine staff in making the facility available for our day program.

Initially, the program is offered on Thursday's every other week from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.  WAVE's ultimate goal is to offer the program on a more frequent basis when additional funding becomes available.  Seven clients are currently attending the day program.  Ms. Debby Rios, a former instructor at Gretchen Everhart is our Therapist.WAVE Day Program

The program consists of vocational skills training, arts and crafts, socialization skills and activities of daily living.  On day one the students worked on arts & crafts and took a trip to the local library to develop their computer skills.

If you would like additional information regarding the Day program please contact Bob Maryanski at 412-9279 or by email; wavefriends@hotmail.com.

Check back often as we will have additional information regarding the day program.  Additional photos can be found on the events page.

Purpose, Philosophy and Goals

The Workshop for Adult Vocational Enrichment provides opportunities for social activities, community involvement, and life-skills training activities for adults and teens with developmental disabilities. Activities are designed to serve a broad range of abilities and preferences. Social activities include dances, swim parties, bowling, and hay-rides, to name a few. Life-skills training includes learning laundry skills by meeting weekly at a Laundromat and washing linens for local businesses as well as purchasing items at a grocery store which are then used at social activities. Our performing chorus meets weekly to practice and performs at various community events.

Our goal is to provide opportunities for involvement as well as the support and assistance needed to make the activities accessible and a successful experience for our clients. It is our philosophy to provide services that enhance the ability of each individual to be an integral part of the community and to foster friendships so as to take part in a rich social life that most of us take for granted.
